In addition to rock, we also have indie, pop, heavy mental with a diversity of notable artists, you can immerse yourself in the glamor music. In order to have a general view of the festival, we will come from the root – the festival’s history.
Rock in Rio – the outdoor music festival lasted more than one week is firstly held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1985, after that, it is expanded to Lisbon, Portugal; Madrid, Spain and Las Vegas, the United States. However, who are which company invented this festival? The answer is that Roberto Medina is an inventor and he made his dream come true, even when it looked like incapable. At the beginning, the list of artists was full of famous ones, for instance, AC/DC, George Benson, Queen, James Taylor, Iron Maiden, Yes, Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne and so on. The next six years, the festival was not active, but in 199, it came back and was organized at Maracanã – the largest stadium in the world at that time. Do you know that they set 400 airplane headlights among 3000 lights on the roof of the stadium. If Coachella – one of the best music festivals in the world – reached the its highest number of visitors who attent Coachella: 198 thousand attendees in 2015, Rock in Rio marked this number on its history in 1991.
Sadly, the festival continued stopping from 1991 to 2000, and in 2001, the third edition took place with performances of a majority of talented artists: N Sync, REM, Queen of The Stone Age, Oasis, Britney Spears, Guns N’ Roses, the Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Cassia Eller and various other big names.
In 2004, there was a surprising thing occurred which made Brazillians feel unhappy, but Portugese had contrary feeling, because the festival was held in Lisbon, Portugal.
Rock in Rio is not annual music festival, therefore, until 2006, the festival continued to be organized in Lisbon, not Rio de Janeiro. It raised $700 thousands for fund to combat environmental problems and gave a reliable gurantee to plant 118 thousands trees by 2016. According to this gurantee, we can see that Rock in Rio is a friendly environmental music festival, this is a bright point which is similar to the Coachella festival in which artists also design recycling garbages to protect environment.
In 2008,2010 and 2012, Rock in Rio was not only held in Lisbon, it was set in a new place in Spain: Madrid. It does not mean that the festival has not come back Rio de Janeiro, it returned to hometown in 2011 and 2013. Maybe, because Brazilians had waited for a long time, therefore, 700 thousands tickets were sold out just in four days.
Although the festival was set in only Lisbon in 2014, it had the third branch in Las Vegas, the United States in 2015 – the first Rock In Rio festival in the North America, and in Rio de Janeiro. In new Las Vagas’ edition, are you curious about the list of artist who perform in the festival?
